The Daily Prophet January 3rd 1982 Marriage Legislation Bill Passed by MinistryThe new emergency legislation concerning wizarding marriage, one of the most controversial Marriage Bills since the Interspecies Petition of 1769, has been passed by the Ministry yesterday. Minister of Magic, Millicent Bagnold, wishes to stress the importance of repopulating the wizarding world after the destructive war with Lord Voldemort, in which many lives were lost and most wizarding families severely thinned. The new Marriage Bill is geared to strengthen not only wizarding bloodlines, but the entire wizarding community as a whole. "The passing of this Bill marks the beginning of a new era - an Era of Unity," Bagnold clarified. "The Ministry has committed itself to the wellfare of the community." For the public, this means that every legal adult, after finishing their education, will have an interview and will have to fill out a form with their preferences for a spouse, shortly after which they will receive a letter containing a possible match and a place and time for them to meet. A special new branch has been instituted in the Department of International Magical Cooperation to ensure that everything runs smoothly. Not everyone is able to see the merits of this legislation. Escazia Beats, who also led the Patronus Protestmarch against this very Bill last week, has structurally criticised the Ministry's decision, saying the Bill was too flawed to be passed. "It is full of gaps and holes," she argued, "the marriages are said to be made official by Unbreakable Vow, which is too serious a Vow to use for such snap decisions." Craig Curran, one of the instigators of the Separate Scottish Magical Ministry petition, claims that "the Minister is blindly insistent on ramming through a Bill without running proper simulation beforehand" and that it fails to take nationality into account. "It is a covert, back room deal." The situation is not at all as pessimistic as all that, however. As the couples are able to word their own Vows, Beats' complaint does not weight as heavily. In fact, for a small extra fee, Vow Officials will be for hire to word the Vow for the young happy couples to make sure all legal issues are covered. As for the mixing of nationalities and, while we are at it, pureblood with muggleborns - there is always the opportunity for the applicants to decline a match. In that case, a new match will be found for them. "In the end, we have to realise that the Age of the Individual is ending," Bagnold reminds us. "Our community has sacrificed enough. Now is the time to stand United and rebuild what has been lost."
[hover=The Plot Baby!]The year is 1982 and the marauders have all graduated Hogwarts and the Dark Lord has been killed, his body laid to rest in a most secret location. During the war there were many lives lost and the wizarding race is running thin. If the ministry doesn't take action there will be no more magic left in Britain so by decree of the Minister of Magic, a marriage law has been passed stating that all between the ages of 21 and 35 must wed and produce at least one child within the next five years. How will people manage when they are Forced Together?
